After she attacked the Heorot, Beowulf prepared to kill her the next day. Beowulf and his band of warriors traveled to the she-demon's cave, called "The Mere," which is marked by Eschere's head on a post. Beowulf kills the serpents surrounding the cave with his bow and arrow and then dives in himself. He tussels with her and is protected by his new armor as she tries to stab him from behind. Beowulf then tosses Hrunting aside because it could not harm her and grabs a sword crafted by giants instead. Beowulf strikes and kills her with the giant sword. Upon leaving, Beowulf decides to cut off the head of Grendel's body and take it back to Hrothgar.
